The last episode of the television show M*A*S*H wrapped 25 years ago but the legacy lives
on and now M*A*S*H fans have an opportunity to bring a piece of the magic home.
The series withstood an 11-year run, following a team of doctors in South Korea during the
Korean War. Actor Alan Alda, who played the infamous “Hawkeye Pierce,” kept two mementos
of the hit series: the dog tags and the combat boots that he wore throughout the show’s run.
Twenty-five years later, Alda still can’t part with the dog tags, but he is finally
loosening his grip on the boots and offering them up for a good cause, as part of the
New York Comedy Festival’s Nov. 5 Stand-Up For Heroes event, benefiting the Bob Woodruff
Foundation. The cause is a natural one for Alda, as the foundation provides direct support
to our Nation’s injured service members. The bidding for Alda’s boots and his other
personal M*A*S*H memorabilia began online on Nov. 4 at charityfolks.com (and ends on 11/19), with
a live auction to follow at the Stand Up For Heroes event Nov. 5 in New York City.
11/9/2008
The auction site charityfolks.com
includes an item for dinner with Mike Farrell and Shelley Fabares;
they will dine with the winner of this auction in Los Angeles to benefit the ACLU of Southern California.
