Character Habits

This has been discussed before though not for awhile. What habits do the characters have that you find odd? An example... Hawkeye smelling pieces of food on his tray. Like he doesn't already know that its low quality and the only other option is to spend money eating at Rosie's.

Colonel Potter's Language

Being a long-time Army veteran, I figured Colonel Potter would use coarser language than "Horse hockey" or "mule fritters." I suppose it's more endearing to me than odd.

Potter's swearing....

Remember that Potter was very respectful of just about everyone under him. He admitted that he was wrong when he mistreated Klinger in "Period of Adjustment".

If Klinger, Radar, or anyone fr that matter, swore too much, they'd get reprimanded for it.

Anyone that watches even some M*A*S*H knows that Potter was the type of commander that would never expect anyone to do that he himself couldn't, or wouldn't do.

Ooops. Didn't finish.

If Potter swore, but no-one else could, he might feel a bit guilty about something that he could do but others couldn't.

Therefore I suspect that part of the reason for Potter using phrases like Mule Fritters, Buffalo Bagels and all where were out of respect of others.

Hawkeye's use of sarcasm/humor was rather habitual. Not to mention the habit he, Trapper & B.J. had of drinking from the still. Frank's rottenness was habitual to be sure. Radar overeating was one too, once he loaded up his tray and Hawkeye asked if that was the Hunt breakfast, another time Potter asked sarcastically if Radar had enough to eat.

Henry Blake forgetting to duck

TV Land was showing some season 1 episodes last night. Henry whacked his head going through the tent door because he didn't duck. Not sure if I call it a habit or a recurring gag. I know it's a cheap laugh, but I still get a chuckle.
