Payday

I actually found an episode playing on AMC while I was flipping channels the other day - it was Payday.
There are a bunch of enjoyable parts - Trapper's losing ways in poker, an Eldon Quick appearance (I think he could have been a funny recurring character throughout the series), Henry's crack about paying unemployment insurance in case the war ends and he loses his job, and Hawkeye's interactions with those getting paid.

The premise of Hawkeye getting $3,000 from the army, presumably on the same day is absolutely ridiculous. And Trapper winning enough in a few hands of poker to pay off the entire amount seems equally ridiculous.

Does the ridiculousness of the story impact your enjoyment of the episode?

Hawkeye's bilking the army for 3K isn't half as bad as him claiming a massive amount of back pay in Tuttle for someone who doesn't exist. Even in a pre-computer age, you think they'd have the brains to figure out something was up along the way.

Ha! I forgot about Tuttle. But didn't Henry remember him?

On top of that, Frank wanted Henry to make Tuttle his roomie, and that Gen Clayton wanted him to look after him. Frank even called him Johnny.

"We both speak the same language"

Hilarious.
