GFA

how many of you think they should have had some acknowledgment of Henry, Frank & Trapper in GFA?

Maybe they could have shown Henrys wife watching a report on TV or listening on the radio; about the end of the war, she thinks of her husband and turns off the TV (or radio) goes over to a picture of him on a shelf, picks it up, hugs it and starts crying.
And maybe have Trapper reading about it in the paper, start thinking about Hawkeye and the others and start feeling bad that he never said goodbye to him.
As for Frank, I don't know.

I wish they had done some type of tribute to Henry and shown Trapper, Frank, and Radar back in the states learning about the war ending. I'm not a fan of GFA. Its to heavy handed for me.

I only like the final dinner together and the goodbye scenes. Otherwise again its to heavy handed for me.

You know, I never thought about that. It would have been nice if Trapper and Radar could have made a cameo appearance. Frank would have been too busy burying his kickbacks in the yard to even worry about the war.

At least Henry, Radar, and Frank got their shoutouts in the second-to-last episode with the time capsule. Poor Trapper didn't even get that. :(

And personally I love GFA, one of the best episodes IMO.

Call me cranky, but I'm okay that they didn't include the old characters. It just seems like their stories were all told and wrapped up, and told uniquely so they had some depth and several facets.

Reintroducing or referencing them would have transferred some of the viewer emotion from the armistice to the reunions, and I think they wanted to focus us as much as was feasible on the war itself.

Frankly, I think the storyline of Charles/Margaret finding work was nice and added depth, but I think the dinner scene was just the writers throwing viewers a bone rather than wanting to include it.

Actually Trapper was acknowledged in GFA. When Hawkeye returned from the mental hospital and was told that B.J. had gone home, and there was no note, Hawkeye mentioned Trapper by name having done the same thing, and Hawk then asked "Is it the war that stinks or me?"

My gripe with GFA is we had no scene with Hawkeye in the Swamp!
