Do you think their marriage survived him being away for 2yrs? B.J.'s personality changed a lot during his time at the 4077th and Peg became a more independent/capable woman with her husband gone.

I think their marriage was strained for the first months that B.J. was back just from the adjustment. He had been away for 2yrs and both had changed as a result but their love survived through letters, phone calls, and the strength of their connection.

I like to think that when B.J settled in back home that Peg would be showing off to B.J. all the things that she was able to do on her own while he was gone. Through that episode where B.J. becomes frustrated with this, I think he learned enough that he would appreciate and be proud of her for the things she did to maintain the house. Would that be enough to keep things going? I think so. Like you mentioned, they communicated quite well throughout the series and that's really important in how things would be back home. Erin would also bring them closer together because then they can actually have some family time.

A really good fan fiction about this topic is up on FanFic.net and goes into detail about B.J. struggling to adjust to home life. He loves his wife and child but the memories of the war keep front and center in his dreams/daily life. Its pretty much how i would see things happening at home for B.J. the first 4-6 months of being at home.

In my imaginary world BJ & Peg ended up just fine. Potter was away from Mildred for three wars and they ended up just fine, as evidenced by AFTERMASH. What I wonder is if BJ ever fessed up to Peg about his one night stand he had with the nurse in "Hanky Panky", not to mention his attraction to Aggie O'Shea...
