A Complete Roster of Generals

Like the nurses thread, there were a LOT of generals on the show, let's see if we can compile a complete list of them as well.

Off the top of my head...

Bradley Barker
Crandel Clayton
Hamilton Hammond
Waldo Kent
Theodore Korshak
Lyle Weiskopf

I forget his name, but he was the one suffering from gastortis in "Peace On Us" (7x02)

*Faceslap* How the hell could I forget him?! Seriously, there is NO excuse for me to forget Steele, with three Es, not all in a row! *Slaps myself*

Oh, and here's a couple who were refered to, but not seen:

Irving R. "Binky" Hamilton
Bill Imbree

That's with three E's, not all in a row...

General Collins whose son, the Lt. dies. Collins had the trailer on camp.

Who was Waldo? Was he the general who ordered Potter to close down the Officers' Club? If not, I'm trying to remember the name of that general.

Oh yeah, I remember that trailer park general, lol.

And no, actually Waldo was the one who told Potter that negative reports were coming in about his inefficiency as commander of the 4077, and that the reports were coming from inside the camp.

And that reminds me, there was also Major General Fox: the one who had B.J. arrested for throwing a wild party at the same hotel, but it turned out to all be a big practical joke by Leo Bardanaro.

There was also Gen. Rothaker who ordered the camp to go dry in 'The Moon is Not Blue'

Let's not forget Torgy Porgy - Gen. Edwin Torgeson, a M*A*S*H maker whose signature was on the orders that sent Hawkeye to the 4077th.

Also, I think Brig. Gen. Kester and his wife were mentioned as having been assaulted by Frank in a bath house in Tokyo.

Oh yeah, IIRC, Frank was so out of his mind, he mistook them for Donald and Margaret, grabbed Mrs. Kester and started crying like a baby... all while they were in a public bath!

What about the general who showed up at channels demanding the generator that Klinger was already trading for? I forget his name, but he actually revealed he was the one who actually swiped the 4077th's back-up generator.

It just now occurred to me that even though most of the on-screen generals only appeared in the first two seasons of the show, a couple of them actually get mentions in much, much later episodes:

General Barker becomes a plot point in "The Price of Tomato Juice" (4x16), where he has invited Margaret to a social gathering for the weekend, which she doesn't seem to mind, but enrages Frank.

General Hammond is also mentioned in "Commander Pierce" (7x01) has having been replaced by General Imbree.

How about General Marion Somebody, the guy who got stung by Radar's bee?

Oh, and speaking of Gen. Irving "Binky" Hamilton (see above), there was one line I didn't understand. I believe it was in the ep where the 4077th bugged out. Col. Potter is on the phone checking out the rumor with Gen. Hamilton, and at the end of the convo he says something like, "Is that on the level, Bink? Emmis?" Any idea what Emmis means?

AbGeneral Hamilton 'Charlie' Hammond

Bet some of you didn't know this, but like what Gary Burghoff did with "Radar", G. Wood did the same thing by bringing his character General Hamilton "Charlie" Hammond from the big screen to the tv series. UNLIKE Burghoff, Wood only appeared on two episodes..."The Pilot" and "Henry, Please Come Home" He also did a voice over (by phone) on the episode "To Market, To Market". Although not in the episode, Hawkeye (Alan Alda) did imitate General Hammond.

Also, two other actors from the big screen also appeared on the TV series, but played a different character:

Timothy Brown (Corporal Judson) played Dr. Oliver Harmon "Spearchucker" Jones....he and the original 'Spearchucker' did share the same screen on the theatrical version...during the football scene. There is one shot where Film 'Spearchucker' was having a word with the TV 'Spearchucker"...sorta.

Corey Fisher (Capt. Bandini) played Dentist Dr. Captain Phil Cardozo in the episode 'Five O'Clock Charlie'...who suggested to Hawkeye and Trapper to find a way to get rid of the dump that way they could take Frank's joy of having a gun on the compound.

So who's your favorite general?

I wanted to post a new topic, but figured resurrecting this one would help you with the list of generals.

Do you have a favorite general or two?

I know the recurring generals pretty left after the first few seasons. My favorite recurring general was Gen Clayton, Herb Voland's character. He must have been sharp politically, because he didn't seem particularly wise, intelligent, or great military capability.

One of the funniest appearances had to be "General MacArthur." What made his appearance even funnier was the contrast with Radar as his stand-in during the practice run.
