to David-

Hi I'm sorry to try to contact you this way, but I can't seem to pull up your contact info. I have a MASH fanfic that I would like to submit to your site. Could you please email with your address so I can submit it?

Thank you so much

Melinda,

On the main page of the site, on the Original Stories section, there is a link to email David. It's david@bestcareanywhere.net

thank you so much moonbeam! For some reason I can't set up my email to be my default one, so I'm unable to just click on a link to send one. This helped out a lot!

a little self-promotion here

David so kindly posted my Potter/Blake/Burns tribute The Reunion. it's mostly a Potter tribute but it made sense to include the others. It has every character in it except for Mulcahy, I just can't seem to capture his voice. Does anyone else have trouble writing for a particuar character?
I've written over 40 MASH stories and this one was my favorite.

I hope someone likes it!

Capturing the voice is one of the hardest things to do. Usually in M*A*S*H fics writers tend to have the hardest time capturing Hawkeye and Flagg because they are spontaneous type characters who always have something new to say.

It isn't the voice you have to capture but the tone and pace of their words.

With Father Mulcahy to many people try to capture his character instead of how he actually talks.

Go to any episode he is in and listen to HOW he talks. He tends to delay getting to his point and uses alot of pause words like "Well, I, uh," in his general chat which displays his meek nature and thus his character and voice. However when he has something important to say or feels wrong or justified or he feels strongly that someone is doing something wrong he comes right out and says it.

Take for example the episode "None Like It Hot" where BJ and Hawkeye get a bathtub. When Margaret incites the crowd of tired and hot people to throw whomever is in the tub out because they think he has taken a single minute too long Father Mulcahy pops right out of the tent brandishing a scrub brush and says rather indignantly to the crowd that it is his bath and that he is taking it! Bottom line, no frills dialogue.

A far cry from his usual chat and people take him seriously when he does have something important to say as a result. Sometimes it is not only how a character says something but how the other characters in the story react to what another character is saying.
