Frank pulls pranks on Hawkeye! It was on MeTV the other night and I had forgotten the pranks. I don't recall any other time Frank pulled pranks. And they were pretty good. The shower one seems waaaay out of Frank's intelligence, so I don't know how he figured it out. And it's hard to believe that a farm boy from Ottumwa, Iowa can play drums like that! Well done, Radar.

Indeed, if ever there was an episode that was more or less totally UNTRUE to character, it was definitely Frank in that episode! Not sure what got into him, but if memory serves, Frank got his just desserts at the end of the episode. Now I'll have to rewatch it to see!

Let's consider something there: M*A*S*H was on the verge of being a one-season wonder, and it didn't look like it would be renewed for another season, so I don't think they took that into consideration when writing for Frank in that episode (and let's also keep in mind during Season 1, Frank wasn't as mentally deficient as he became in ensuing seasons). Also, I think we're supposed to be under the impression that Hawkeye had finally pushed Frank over the edge with his pranks and insults against him that he was essentially retaliating against Hawkeye by pranking him - an eye for an eye sort of thing. That's just my interpretation anyway.

I believe Hawkeye insults Frank in front of others about how much morphine to give a patient while unloading the bus. And then the pranks start. But I agree...totally out of character for Frank.
